Singular, Plural and a / an

I can use a / an with singular nouns and make simple plurals.

أستطيع استخدام a / an مع الاسم المفرد وتكوين الجمع البسيط.

WHAT? · What is the grammar point?

ما هي القاعدة؟

Use 'a' or 'an' before ONE thing. Use 'an' before a vowel SOUND (a, e, i, o, u): an apple, an hour. For more than one, add -s and do NOT use a/an: two apples.

نستخدم a أو an قبل الاسم المفرد فقط، بمعنى «واحد». نستخدم an إذا بدأت الكلمة بصوت متحرك (a, e, i, o, u) مثل an orange، وa مع باقي الأصوات مثل a camel. في الجمع نضيف s للاسم ولا نستخدم a أو an.

an + vowel sound: an egg, an hour
Plural: noun + s → books (no a/an)
