I can join two simple sentences into a compound sentence with the right connector.

ما هي القاعدة؟

A simple sentence has one idea. A compound sentence joins two ideas. 'and' adds, 'but' contrasts, 'or' gives a choice, 'so' shows a result, 'because' gives a reason.

الجملة البسيطة فيها فكرة واحدة، والمركبة تربط فكرتين. and (و) للإضافة، but (لكن) للتعارض، or (أو) للاختيار، so (لذلك) للنتيجة، because (لأن) للسبب. نضع فاصلة عادةً قبل but وso عند ربط جملتين كاملتين.
